About the Author
I didn’t start out to write this book. I was halfway through another story and stuck. So I decided to set that story aside and write something short, intending to get back to the first one in just a bit. But what to write? It was summer and thoughts of high school dates at the lake kept coming to mind—including a coconut cream pie fight we won’t speak of.

What if? Not my lake and not even close to my own story, but within a week, Nicole and Jake were in my head, insisting their story be told.

I love romance in books, movies, and songs. And in real life. Second chance stories are a particular favorite. About two weeks after I started writing Unfinished, we made contact with a friend we’d lost track of and discovered that the year before, he’d married his first love. After fifty years apart! First love did, indeed, get a second chance.

It’s time for me to get back to the story that’s been waiting. Logan and Steve, my imaginary friends, are ready to talk.

Don't let the cover fool you, this is one of the best I've ever read

WOW!!! I just have to take a few moments as my thoughts are ping-ponging on how to describe my state after reading this book. My first reaction was ... Dang, is this actually the last page I turning?

I was approached by Ms Hammond's assistant to review this book and truthfully the cover led me to think... A sweet contemporary novel boy, girl and an HEA. Ok no worries it will be light and fun.

HELLO!!! FAR FROM IT!! And I know that the words I write here still will not fully express my true experience in reading "Unfinished".
It is truly a wonderful must!

I began reading and then realized I totally misjudged the complexity and fullness of a fantastic woven, layered story. We are introduced to a sweet sassy h, Nicole and a wrong-side-a-the-tracks H, Jake who fall in love over summer. The story opens letting you know you're 23 years ahead and then we cast back to the beginning when a damaged boy meets the accepting ray of 'Sunshine' who turns his world around and for her this angsty guy is her first love. The build is so well done and the structure keeps your emotions climbing and although they find each other again physically, they have so much healing and letting go to reach each other emotionally.

This is one well written book of the lives of two well-rounded, believable characters, right down to the fact that this "sweet contemporary story" was actually a full blown, messy, real-to-actual-life believable, no holes barred, sensual, knock your socks off journey that traversed 23 years of what ifs, horrible childhood experiences, coming of age, and finally healing. I got so caught up in this story that knowing how the characters looked, if the H was sexy and the h had attitude, was so not the priority. The spicy bits were very welcome but they fell so naturally in the story they were part of it rather that the hook to catch the reader, as in some books. The storyline has layers and layers married with the paint style of the h, Nicole, whose work was referenced throughout the flow as milestones in their journey.

My thoughts are totally my own, and my only issues are, that the cover does not do the words justice as it seems frivolous compared to the depth inside. The price I must say is a giveaway as I have seen and read books that are much more expensive and are so airy and flat in comparison.
Ms Hammond I am so grateful to Joann for contacting me and sharing your fantastic book with me and I am so enamored with it. It is on the top shelf of my library and I am now concreted as a fan of your work.
Gifts are so rare and for us readers who appreciate a really good story that is realistic and has so many messages and morals within (and o don't forget a bit of sauce and spice too ) you have hit every check mark with a huge tick mark. Again thank you.

Time Changed for Me as I Read "Unfinished"

I'm going to admit to knowing Susan and to have heard her read bits of this novel last Spring in writer's group. I dropped away from the group but was given the opportunity to read the finished work so I did. Now I'm a guy. I don't read romance novels. I'm into SF, suspense, legal, and high tech books. Seriously, I wouldn't consider romance if it were the last book in the world. But I wanted to see what Susan accomplished.

I read a few chapters, got distracted with my own technical writing for a few days, and picked it back up late the Saturday when we changed from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time. I kept watching the time on my iPad so I wouldn't read too late - which means 2 am for me. I just kept on reading until I finished the book. It made me want to keep going. Then I looked at a real clock and saw the iPad had changed time on me. It was 3:30 am! Yikes! Duh! The iPad changed time one me!

Is this well written? Yes! Is it suspenseful? Yup! Could I put it down? Nope!

Susan did a great job of bringing in real life situations that shaped Jake's life. I nodded at least twice as his experiences paralleled my own or others I've known. I could see Nicole in people I know. I also at various times in the book wanted to grab both of them and shake them until they came to their senses. That's how real Susan made them.

A delightful, captivating romp of a story. But what sets this book apart is the quality of the writing. Hammond is a craftsman of the language; the prose is tight, polished, and makes you want to linger over each sentence. A magnificent first novel.

Nelly Hanna fills this gap by showing that there were worldwide trends that touched Egypt, India, southeast Asia, and Europe. In all these areas, for example, there were linguistic shifts that brought the written language closer to the spoken word. She also demonstrates that technology and know-how, far from being centered only in Europe, flowed in different directions: in the eighteenth century, French entrepreneurs were trying to imitate the techniques of bleaching and dyeing of cloth that they found in Egypt and other Ottoman localities.
Based on a series of lectures given at the Middle East Center at Harvard, this groundbreaking book will be of interest to all those looking for a different perspective on the history of south-north relations.

Great bargain

on an otherwise hard to find text. I got tired of getting the old Loeb translations on interlibrary loan and having to give them back before I got very far. There is no information in this book about the text, but presumably it is the Dewing translation. The volume is nicely done, and the text looks good, so if you just want the story without the Greek and without any editorial assistance, at a great price, this is for you.

I have not actually read it yet, but Amazon sent me the review form, so I am responding. With something like this, the shopper really wants to know what it is in addition to the quality of the content, and what it is is a neat reproduction of the public domain translation from the 1920's of two volumes of Procopius' great history. Procopius is a delightful and informative writer, and the subject matter -- Belisarius' campaigns to bring Italy back under Imperial control -- is weighty, so I look forward to reading it.

Warning: The 1-Star Reviews Are For A Different Book

Just wanted to mention that the 1-star reviews are for a different book with the same title. The book they are referring to is written by Michael Pearl, and I wholeheartedly agree with their reviews on *that* book. It's awful and abusive.

It is unfortunate that Daniel Switzer's book, (the one pictured above) is titled the same, because *this* book is quite lovely. In this book, Mr. Switzer discusses The Golden Rule as applied to parenting, praying over our children, blessing them, avoiding shaming our children, using authority versus being authoritarian, etc. There are wonderful chapters about how to teach our children truths about Yeshua (Jesus) using the Biblical Feasts as 'object lessons'.

The tone of this book is actually very sweet and loving, with an air of understanding just how great a blessing our children are and how great our responsibility is in raising them.

This is a book I go back to when I'm weary and need a renewal of the long term vision of parenting.

Biblical view of training a child

This teaches parents how to set healthy boundaries for the healthy development of the child. This emphasizes the importance of disciplining your child without anger. Switzer stresses the importance of loving your child in God's Word and correcting your child without anger but calmly when your child demonstrates negative behaviors. He also instructs parents how to teach gratitude and respect for older people in the book and much more. Very balanced book on raising healthy, successful children.

Negative reviews come from people with misunderstanding on loving children God's way. They might not even like God but that's on them. But they don't understand and so have animosity against things that they don't know or understand.

BEWARE THIS BOOK IS EVIL,

I created this page while I was pregnant, before I was a parent. I read this book as I was pregnant and thought this was normal and OK. But it's not. I thought this was a good book because I was raised in an unknowingly abusive home. It is wrong and abusive to hit your child. God did say spare the rod and spoil the child.. but when Jesus came he told us if an enemy slap one cheek to show them the other. Jesus taught love, kindness, patients, and tolerance. This book undermines Jesus and undermines the love parents should have for their children. Violence teaches violence. Hitting, intimidating, and parenting with the idea that you as a human being are more important than your child as a human being is NOT okay. Please, for the sake of your children, stop hitting them and parenting with intimidation.

About the Author

Dr. Murari P. Singh (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) is the President of Safe Technical Solutions, Inc (SAFETSOL). Dr. Singh has been involved in the design, development and analysis of industrial turbomachinery for more than thirty years with Turbodyne Corporation, Dresser Industries, Dresser-Rand Company, GE CONMEC and most recently with GE Oil & Gas as Consulting Engineer. Dr. Singh has extensive knowledge and experience with fatigue and fracture mechanics, stress and vibration of structures, reliability, life analysis, probabilistic analysis. His practical application experience includes a variety of rotating equipments including Warm Gas and FCC Expanders, Steam Turbines and Centrifugal Compressors. He developed the widely used SAFE diagram for reliability evaluation of turbine blades. The SAFE diagram methodology is superior to other current methods in providing clear analytical and predictive information. This concept has been applied to other turbomachineries. It is a significant contribution to design methods and vibration technology for the evaluation of turbine blade reliability. For many years, Dr. Singh has been involved in (developing and teaching) application of lifing strategy to many mechanical components, this includes hcf, lcf, creep, fracture mechanics. Probabilistic estimation is used to estimate risk in design. He is the co-author of the book "Steam Turbine, Design, Application, and Rerating", second edition published by McGraw-Hill Co.

Dr. George M. Lucas, PE, is a registered Professional Engineer with over 34 years of experience in the design, analysis and operation of steam turbines and large rotating equipment. As Director of Engineering for Dresser-Rand’s Wellsville Steam Turbine Operation, George was directly responsible for product design, steam path engineering, turbine performance, and manufacturing engineering for their custom engineered process drive steam turbines and steam turbine generators. He was directly responsible for the design of over 100 custom engineered steam turbines and contributed to the design and development of several Engineered Steam Turbine product families. Mr. Lucas was Design Project Leader for the joint Dresser-Rand/EPRI project that resulted in the successful commissioning of the 110 MW gas turbine/expander train at PowerSouth Electric Cooperative’s McIntosh Compressed Energy Storage Plant. Mr. Lucas received B. Sc. (1975) and M. Eng. (1976) degrees from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He holds two U.S. patents and has authored technical papers on topics including the use of advanced seals in steam turbines, compressed air energy storage and the development of advanced steam turbines for syn-gas compressor drive service. Mr. Lucas is currently an independent consultant serving OEM and end-user clients in oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing industries.

The book "Blade Design and Analysis for Steam Turbines" provides a unique compendium of all concepts, basic analytical formulas and techniques needed to cope with design of industrial steam turbines flowpath (blades) components.
While there is a wider literature on large steam turbines applied in power generation, very few books are covering or focusing on industrial steam turbines for mechanical drive applications. Mechanical drive applications are especially demanding in requiring to steam turbines capability to adapt to variable speed and variable loads, challenging the design of flowpath components. Present book from Dr. Singh is one of the few books covering these challenges and presenting a very good summary of 30 years expertise achieved in mechanical drive steam turbines design.
The book "Blade Design and Analysis for Steam Turbines" is very well covering the challenges of design for dynamic behavior and vibration of industrial steam turbines blades. It moves from guidance to vibration behavior of bladed disk system (chapter 7), to damping concepts and damper system design (chapter 6), to methods (simplified and detailed) to estimate dynamic stresses (Chapter 7), to guidance to perform High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) assessment of blades including the effects of residual stresses and giving useful guidance on fatigue resistance correction factors (Chapter 8), to a review of manufacturing methods and design solutions (Chapter 3).

Good technical content, but needs much better editing

The folks who wrote this obviously know what they are doing, but the text is either poorly edited, or written by someone for whom English is a second language. The text has a large number of grammatical errors, dropped words, etc. It can require several readings of a paragraph to grasp what is being said. In addition, there are a number of instances where mathematical terms are not defined (or defined in translated English), making it difficult to understand what is being presented. Apart from these foibles, it is a very good book.

Blade Design fundamentals

The book from Dr. Singh and Mr. Lucas is a book focused on the key design factors and challenges for steam turbine/ turbomachinery equipment : the flowpath blading. They present a very good summary of 30+ years of expertise achieved in mechanical drive steam turbines design. As steam turbines develop further into new applications where cyclic duty and part-power settings are even more important(such as in the concentrated solar power production field), the relevance to this blade design knowledge and suitable guidance for acceptable design is even more significant.

This text book covers the overall design knowledge of industrial steam turbines blades/ disks including a very methodic and detailed review of dynamic behavior and vibrations. The book builds knowledge very progressively from guidance on blade materials and construction, to overall stress and damage mechanisms, to methods to estimate dynamic stresses in performing High Cycle Fatigue (HCF) assessment of blades, to a final assessment of blade life improvement options and summarizing the life cycle risks.

Although there are some areas where editing of text could be improved, this book is a great technical reference and baseline for all those who are approaching the design of blades for application in variable speed mechanical drive industrial steam turbines.
