Good reference for Aikido and Daito-ryu practioners

As a practioner of Daito-ryu, this book offers a condensed history of the art but leaves a big gap between the foundation of Daito-ryu and the creation of Aikido techniques including the principles of how and why the techniques were created. Experienced practioners will have a better understanding of the techniques represented in this book. The section that includes the definitions of Japanese is worth buying the book for alone. Overall, it is a good reference book to be included in a martial artist's library.

A few years ago I was introduced to this book as the new owner of a toy store. I can honestly say that this book has changed my life and the world around me. People buy it for newborns, children graduating from kindergarten,grandchildren,highschool graduation,college graduation,you name it. The painted rock fish in this book inspire the reader to look at life around them and see the world through new inspired eyes. It encourages you to make this world a better place. Beautiful book for children with a great message!

I love this book! It has a great message about being an individual while not telling kids how unrealistically special they are. I don't like books that tell kids that they are more special than others, etc. This one talks about how sometimes you need to stand out and sometimes you need to fit in. I think it is the perfect balance of teaching kids that it's okay to be different and it's okay to be the same, so long as you stay true to who you are.

I liked this book so much that I bought Linda Kranz's other book You Be You. I love that one, too!

This is a beautiful book with reminders for your child that there is no one out there like them. That they are unique and amazing. I bought this for my daughter's teachers to sign at the end of the school year. She has just finished 7th grade, so we are getting a late start on this. I plan on giving this to her on the day of her 12th grade graduation.

About the Author
Yaron Ezrahi studied political science and philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds a PhD from Harvard University. He has served as an advisor on science policy to the White House, the US National Academy of Science, the OECD (1969-70), the Israeli Academy of Science and Humanities (1973-83) and the Carnegie Commission on Science (1992). He is the recipient of a National Jewish Book award and of the Israeli Political Science Association's Prize for Life Work (2009). He has been a member of the Hebrew University faculty since 1972. Other appointments include a fellowship at the Center of Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and visiting professorships at the University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, Harvard University, Princeton University, ETH Zurich and Brown University. His works include The Descent of Icarus: Science and the Transformation of Contemporary Democracy; Technology, Pessimism, and Postmodernism (edited with Everett Mendelsohn and Howard Segal); Rubber Bullets: Power and Conscience in Modern Israel; and Israel Towards a Constitutional Democracy (with M. Kremnitzer). He is a co-founder and board member of The Seventh Eye, Israel's leading journal of press criticism in Hebrew. His work has also appeared in Minerva, Science Studies, Social Research, Inquiry, Foreign Affairs, Transactions of the New York Academy of Sciences and The New York Times Magazine.

a great resource book for drama and ESL teaching enthusiasts

Charlyn's book is both passionate and practical. She focuses on the why's and hows of teaching drama to ESL students from beginner to advanced, but her coverage of the subject of teaching drama, scripted or improvisational, would be useful for native English speakers as well. In one section she offers 50 drama games for ESL students. These games are explained briefly and clearly. Learning outcomes are articulated. There is a one page chart explaining the title of each game, its nature, what it practises, and what level it is good for. She looks at drama and textbook teaching, drama and pronunciation, drama and literature. In short, as a stand-alone or supplement, drama's part of the meal. The book is quick to read, and there is a whole section on how to plan and do a drama project from start to finish. Great stuff!

As someone who enjoys all aspects of Formula 1 racing, this book provided me with an excellent look at how the cars are built. Formula 1 Technology offers a behind-the-scenes, comprehensive look at the design and systems of the cars, and how they have evolved over the years. I found the book to be facisnating and educational. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys Formula 1 racing on a level that goes beyond the track. Author Peter Wright gets the pole position with this one!

F1 Technology Inside-Out

Many such books have been written before, but mostly by people outside the F1 world, primarily journalists. In rare exceptions such books have fallen short of bringing the reader inside the technology of F1, at least not closer than anyone could get through either magazines or other media.
Having been an F1 designer for decades, penning a few winning cars, in competitive teams along side beacons of the auto-sports gave the author an unique perspective in the technology used in F1 until his retirement.
He doesn't try to go all the way back in details or to forecast the future from when the book was written. He just gives an honest witness at the technical side of F1 from the pits, and brilliantly so.

High praise for William F. Buckley, Jr. ~ again.

William F. Buckley introduced to our Republic the undermining of the nation’s higher education via an unfortunate and relentless liberal agenda within academia. This Buckley classic reveals a disease that had infected most universities by the end of World War II ~ atheism and socialism. This book is an easy read and is a remarkable cultural achievement by the then 25 year old Buckley.

The forgotten subtitle of Buckley's book "academic freedom is a superstition" in America was correct and has been since the late 1890's when religious associations with their founding Christian churches were severed. The antecedents to both atheism and socialism within higher academia by 1900 were cast aside in the name of academic freedom of expression and progressiveness. Yale long ago lost the traditional values that placed it, at one time, among the nation’s elite.

Buckley pointed insight still rings true; "Freedom breeds inequality. Unless you have freedom to be unequal, there is no such thing as freedom."

There was no academic freedom at Yale in 1951 (or as early as the late 1890's) and there is certainly no freedom there now. If anything, this malignancy of academic bigotry (which Buckley so eloquently describes) has metastasized to the point that certain death awaits any Man who seeks God within the halls of Yale University.

God and Man at Yale is not a literary must-read, but it ranks among the classics of political and journalistic writing. The ideas presented are narrow in scope (as they should be), focusing exclusively on Yale, and the solutions presented by a 25-year-old Buckley are implausible (alumni do not hold any sway on the university). Gamay is the fascinating introduction of a budding writer whose career would be made on impulsive ideas, quick wit, and idiosyncratic writing style. Buyers considering this book should expect a dry read except for the introduction by Bramwell and foreword written by Buckley for the anniversary edition.

I will use this as a source to teach my animation and character drawing classes

I am a college professor and I have taught classes for years on character art. This is a great source of supportive visual reference for my students to be inspired by and build a foundation of anatomy and form. Some of the best foreshortening pose techniques are in this book

Awesome book

If you want to know to how draw dynamic action poses for making a comic books than this book is highly recommended. It doesn't show anatomy drawing you must get a separate book for that. Overall this gives you proper insight to draw comics with dynamic features included a major example are fight scenes which are really cool. There are many cool looking sketches that can really catch your interest and some useful guides and techniques to help with you draw.

Love it. Lee G. breaks everything down simply and gives clear concise examples. There is no anatomy in this book, but I did not buy it for anatomy. I bought it for form and help in getting started step by step. Anatomy comes later when you start to flesh in. I would HIGHLY recommend this book
